Differences between Family Roots, the Community Card and Family Reunification

Here we explain the main differences: 📝

Family roots

It allows certain family members of Spanish citizens to obtain residency in Spain. 🇪🇸 Applicable to spouses, accredited partners, children under 21 years of age or older in their care, and ascendants over 65 years of age or in their care. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 It is processed when the family member is already in Spain, since there is no visa for Family Roots. 📋

Community Card

The Community Card is for family members of EU citizens. 🇪🇺 It applies to spouses, registered partners, descendants under 21 years of age or dependents, and dependent ascendants. It also extends to extended family members under certain conditions. 🔄

Reagrupación Familiar en Barcelona

Family Reunification is used when a foreigner with legal residence for more than 1 year wants to bring relatives who are abroad. 🌍 It covers spouses, partners in an analogous relationship, children under 18 years of age or disabled children, and dependent ascendants. 👪

Family reunification allows immigrants living in Barcelona to bring their relatives to live with them. This process is regulated and has specific requirements that must be met:

Requirements:

  • Be the holder of a residence permit in Spain.
  • Have sufficient financial means to support reunited family members.
  • Prove that there is suitable housing to accommodate family members.
  • Not be in an irregular situation in Spain.

Required Documentation:

  • Family reunification application form.
  • Valid passport of the applicant and of the family members to be reunited.
  • Documentation proving family relationship (marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc.).
